성남 FC(Seongnam Football Club)는 경기도 성남시를 연고지로 하는 대한민국의 프로

축구단이다. K리그 클래식 7회 우승, AFC 챔피언스리그 2회 우승, 아프로 아시안 클럽 챔피언십 우승 등 각종 대회에서 총 18회의 우승을 기록하였다. 1989년 통일교의 기업그룹 집단인 통일그룹의 주도로 일화 천마 축구단으로 창단되어 초기엔 서울 강북 지역을 연고로 하는 축구단이었지만, 1996년 충청남도 천안으로 옮겨갔으며, 2000년 경기도 성남으로 다시 옮겨 정착하였다. 홈구장은 탄천종합운동장이다. 2013년 모기업인 통일교 계열의 일화가 구단 운영에서 손을 떼 해체 또는 안산시로의 연고지 이전이 거론되었으나, 성남시에서 인수하여 시민구단으로 출범하기로 했다. 2014년 1월 21일 성남 FC로 구단명칭이 확정되고, 2014년 1월 25일 창단식이 열리며 시민구단으로써의 출발을 알렸다.

 

Seongnam FC (Korean: 성남 FC) is a South Korean professional football club,

based in Seongnam, South Korea, Seongnam is satellite city of Seoul, 28 km

away. Seongnam plays in the K League Classic. Founded as Ilhwa Chunma

Football Club in 1989, the club is the most successful in Korean football, having

won a record 7 League titles, 2 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, and 2 AFC Champions League titles. Seongnam placed 5th in the IFFHS Asian Club of the 20th Century.

In 2014, the club was bought by the city of Seongnam and was officially renamed Seongnam FC. The club was founded on 18 March 1989 as Ilhwa Chunma Football Clubwith the club based in Seoul. The club was successful from its beginning,

winning its first League Cup three years later in 1992 and winning three consecutive league titles from 1993 to 1995. But the club was forced to move in 1996, as part of

the K League's decentralization policy. This policy was carried out due to two

reasons - the first reason was that the KFA and the K League wanted to build a

soccer-specific stadium in Seoul and the second reason was that the KFA and the

K League wanted to spread football fever to the provinces. The three clubs based

in Seoul - Ilhwa Chunma, LG Cheetahs, Yukong Elephants didn't accept this policy, resulting in the Korean government giving eviction orders to the 3 clubs. However,

they guaranteed if the clubs built a soccer-specific stadium in Seoul, they could

have a Seoul franchise and then return to Seoul. As a result, three clubs were

evicted from Seoul to other cities, Ilhwa Chunma moved to the city of Cheonan and changed its name to Cheonan Ilhwa Chunma.
